Pace improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 1-3 on the season.
Dominican scored the game opening goal as midfielder William Gordon (Amityville, N.Y.) netted the unassisted goal with 13:12 left in the first quarter. The Setters countered with two consecutive goals before Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) scored his first game goal off the dish from James Conkin (Warwick, N.Y.) with under seven minutes left in the quarter. Later Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) tied the game at 3-all with his first score off the pass from Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Pace closed out the first quarter with a goal for the 5-3 advantage.
Trailing 6-3 early in the second Conklin connected with Gordon during a man-up opportunity to bring the Chargers within two scores (6-4) with 11:13 before the break. The Setters leaped ahead by going on an 8-0 run for a 14-4 lead at the intermission.
Pace continued their run with the first three goals of the third quarter, but the Chargers broke the run with goals by Vencak and Gordon to make the score 17-6.
Both teams scored three goals a-piece in the final quarter with Jordan Jones-Rivers (Bronx, N.Y.) beginning a 3-0 run for Dominican with an unassisted goal. Gordon scored his fourth game goal and freshman Patrick Roderka (Warwick, N.Y.) scored the unassisted goal with 3:32 to play to make the score 18-9. The Setters concluded the game with back-to-back goals for the 20-9 win.
Gordon finished the game with a team leading four goals.
Attacker Vencak finished with two goals, while Jones-Rivers, Roderka and Greenwood each scored one goal in the loss.
Starting goalie Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) made 17 saves throughout the first three quarters. Steffen Peabody (Brookhaven, N.Y.) had four saves in 11 minutes, while John Haas (Staten Island, N.Y.) made one save in the final three and a half minutes.
The Chargers return to action this coming Saturday when they travel to American International College.
