TOP-SEEDED WILDCATS UPEND #4 MEN'S LACROSSE

(4/28/22) The top-seeded Wilmington University men's lacrosse team upended the fourth-seeded Chargers of Dominican College, 24-8, this afternoon in a 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Semifinal contest held today on the campus of Georgian Court University.

With the win Wilmington improves to 11-3 on the season and advances to the CACC Championship Finals, while the Chargers end their season with an overall record of 6-7.
WU opened the scoring with 12:37 left in the first quarter, but Dominican countered with back-to-back goals for the 2-1 advantage. Attacker Cole Vencak (Smithtown, N.Y.) tied the game with 11:55 on the clock following the pass from Angel Rosario (Staten Island, N.Y.).
Eric Greenwood (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) gave DC a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal with 6:14 to play, but the 'Cats closed out the quarter on a 3-0 run for the 4-2 advantage.
Wilmington continued the run with the first four goals of the second before midfielder Terence O'Loughlin (Nanuet, N.Y.) broke the run with an unassisted score with 8:22 left before the half. Following a WU goal, Rosario tallied a man-up goal off the dish from O'Loughlin to cut the lead to 8-3. The Wildcats closed out the quarter as they began it on a 4-0 run and continued the run by scoring eight unanswered goals in the third quarter to increase their lead to 21-4.
The Chargers opened the final quarter with two goals off the stick of O'Loughlin and Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to make the score 21-6, but the 'Cats made two quick scores to add to their lead. With 5:26 to play, Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) netted his first game goal off the pass from O'Loughlin and Jordan Jones-Rivers (Bronx, N.Y.) ended the game with a goal off the dish from Patrick Roderka (Warwick, N.Y.) for the final 24-8 score.
O'Loughlin finished with two goals and two assists in the loss.
Starting keeper Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) made 12 saves in 38+ minutes, while Steffen Peabody (Brookhaven, N.Y.) had three saves in 14+ minutes. John Haas (Staten Island, N.Y.) played the final seven minutes and made two saves.
