Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/25/22) The Dominican University New York men's soccer team suffered their first loss in their season opener to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University.
The Chargers begin the 2022 season 0-1 overall after the 2-0 loss.
Lucas Silva Pereria (Divinopolis-MG, Brazil) started in net for the Chargers and made five saves on seven shots but suffered the loss.
The Chargers took eight total shots in the game. Marouf Barry (Bronx, N.Y.) took a team high two shots. Armindo Ferreira (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Benedick Marcano (Caracas, Venezuela) each recorded one shot on goal that was stopped by the SCSU goalkeeper Devin Juan.
Devin Juan made two saves to keep the Chargers off of the board and earned his first win and the Owls' first win of the season.
Zico Groenveld scored the first goal of the game at the 12:49 mark to put the Owls in front 1-0 and led the team in shots with three. Yannick Hilpert recorded an assist on the goal.
The score remained 1-0 until the second half when Joshi Munoz scored an unassisted goal to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, August 31st when they travel to Molloy University for a non-conference game against the Lions at 7:00 PM.
