NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 21, 2023) -- Post University, which has won the last four titles when all conference schools have competed in a season (2018, '19, '21, '22), was picked to finish first in the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced on Monday by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Eagles earned 130 points and nine first-place votes in the voting conducted by the league's 12 head coaches in the sport.
Wilmington University was tabbed second in the poll with 109 points and a first-place nod, while the University of Bridgeport rounded out the top three in third with 108 points. WilmU reached the conference semifinals last season before falling to Post, while Bridgeport qualified for the postseason in 2022, which was the school's inaugural run as a league member.
Post returns several letterwinners for Ted Haley's squad, as the Eagles will not only look to capture the conference crown once again in 2023, but also make another extended run in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The CACC men's soccer regular season gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 31, with several teams in action. The regular season will be a buildup to the CACC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament, which will be held from Nov. 6-12, including the quarterfinal contests on the 6th at the sites of the highest seeds, and the semifinals and final on Nov. 10 & 12, on the Bridgeport campus in Connecticut. The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament the following weekend at a site to be determined.
