CHARGERS GET BACK INTO THE WIN COLUMN WITH WIN OVER MOUNT SAINT VINCENT
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/8/24) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team got back into the win column after a 3-0 sweep over the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 3-6 overall and hand the Dolphins their first loss in their season opener.
The Chargers started off strong in the first set by downing the Dolphins 25-13 to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead over the Chargers and held an 8-5 advantage. The Chargers used a 15-7 run to extend to a 20-15 lead and then later secured a 25-19 win in the second set for the 2-0 advantage.
In the third set, Dominican used a 13-3 run to take the third set 25-13 and completed the sweep.
Phinehas Wiley (Cedarburg, Wis.) led the way with 13 kills, 15 points, and six digs. Ayden Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) recorded eight kills and scored 9.5 points. Gavin Tate (Appleton, Wis.) and Jacob Davidson (Bloomington, Ind.) combined for 11 kills while Tommaso Falchi (Spoleto, Italy) led the Chargers in block assists with three.
DU setter Luke Koster (Geneva, Ill.) had a match high 31 assists and also added two service aces, one block assist, and one solo block.
The Chargers return to action next Thursday, February 15th when they host Bard College at 7:00 PM in the Hennessy Center.
