DOMINICAN DEFEATS GOLDEN FALCONS IN CACC NORTH DIVISION CLASH
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/17/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team topped the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician University, 66-54, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win the Lady Chargers improve to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in conference, while the Golden Falcons falls to 5-11 overall and 5-2 in the CACC.
Forward Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Cayla Howard (Nagatuck, Conn.) recorded 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals, while freshman Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) posted a career high 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in the win.
Guard Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) tallied nine points, six rebounds, two steals and dished out a game best seven assists. Isabella Javier (Bergenfield, N.J.) netted eight points.
For the Golden Falcons Mar Vidal led the way with 13 points, while Ane Valle scored 12 points and 14 boards. Aisha Traroe netted 19 points and 14 caroms.
Felician led 8-2 with 6:52 remaining in the first quarter, but the Lady Chargers rallied with an 16-8 closing quarter run, ended by a trey from Nunes, to pull infront 18-16.
Dominican outscored their counterparts, 13-8, in the second frame to extend their lead to 31-24 at the break.
The Lady Chargers would never relinquish the lead in the final 20 minutes of action, leading by as many as 19 points (62-43) with 4:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Felician dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Chargers 60-39, but Dominican took advantage of 24 Golden Falcons turnovers in the victory.
Next up for the Lady Chargers will be a CACC contest against the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College slated for 2pm on Coach Baxter Court for the 23rd Annual Sue Heller Memorial Game.
