LADY CHARGERS UPEND CALDWELL UNIVERSITY
Caldwell, N.J. (1/29/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team got back into the win column with a 69-64 win over north division rival Caldwell University in a game played at the Newman Center in Caldwell University.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in the CACC while the Cougars fall to 4-13 overall and 1-7 in the CACC.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) led all scorers with 24 points on 10-15 from the field which included 11 straight points in the fourth quarter to get the Lady Chargers back into the game. Howard also finished with 10 boards to complete the double-double.
Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) finished with 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds while Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 16 boards.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) added eight rebounds, five assists, and five points while Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored six points which included a big three-pointer with just over one minute left to play which gave Dominican the lead.
Tamia Nunes (Worcester, Mass.) provided seven points off the bench and also recorded four rebounds.
Dominican held a five-point lead by halftime but the Cougars played a strong third quarter by outscoring the Lady Chargers 22-15.
The Cougars led for most of the fourth quarter and used a 7-2 to extend to their largest lead of the game. Howard scored the next 11 points which got DU back into the game and contributed to a 17-12 run to end the game and solidify the win.
The Lady Chargers held the edge in rebounds, assists, second chance points, points in the paint, and bench points.
Dominican returns to action Wednesday night when they visit the University of Bridgeport for a north division match up with the Purple Knights.
