GOLDEN KNIGHTS HANG ON TO DEFEAT LADY CHARGERS

Albany, N.Y. (3/2/22) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 12-11 non-conference loss to host, The College of Saint Rose, this afternoon in a game played on Sullivan Field.
Following the loss the Lady Chargers fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Golden Knights improve to 1-0 on the season.
The St. Rose offense accounted for all of the scoring in the first quarter before freshman Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) got the Lady Chargers on the scoreboard with 12:17 left in the second quarter. Following back-to-back Golden Knight scores, Tomasetti netted her second game goal to close out the first half scoring and cut the deficit to 5-2.
Dominican came charging out of the gate and scored the first three goals of the third quarter to knot the score at 5-all. Midfielder Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) began the run with the unassisted goal and Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) tallied the next two goals, one assisted by Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.). A St. Rose goal with six seconds left in the third quarter put them ahead 7-6.
The teams traded goals for the first 11+ minutes of the final quarter to see the Golden Knights take a 12-9 advantage. DC closed out the game with the final two goals as Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal and Tomasetti completed the hat trick with the game's final goal off the assist by Ortiz for the final 12-11 loss.
Tomasetti, Strohmayer, and Ortiz scored three goals each in the contest, while Ortiz added a game best four assists.
Attacker Sarah Smith (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded the Lady Charger other goals.
Keeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made nine saves in the loss.
DC returns to action this weekend as they travel to the Millersville University this coming Saturday and will take on the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday.
