#3 WOMEN'S LACROSSE UPSET #2 RAMS AND EARN TRIP TO CACC CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Lakewood, N.J. (4/29/22) The #3 Dominican College women's lacrosse team upset the second-seeded Rams of Thomas Jefferson University, 13-11, this afternoon in semifinal #2 of the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Championship on the GCU Turf Field.
Lakewood, N.J. (4/29/22) The #3 Dominican College women's lacrosse team upset the second-seeded Rams of Thomas Jefferson University, 13-11, this afternoon in semifinal #2 of the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Championship on the GCU Turf Field.
With the win, the Lady Chargers advance to CACC Championship Final and will face the top-seeded Lions of Georgian Court University in Saturday's championship final, which will be held at 2 p.m., on the turf field. This will be Dominican's first Championship Final appearance in program history, while the Lions make their the fifth-consecutive trip to the final, having won the last four CACC championships.
Sarah Smith (Slate Hill, N.Y.) and Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) each tallied three goals and one assist in the win, while Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) netted three goals and three assists.
Attacker Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) added two goals with Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) each scored a goal.
Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the victory.
The Rams took an early 1-0 lead, but DC countered with a 2-0 spurt to claim a 2-1 lead with under ten minutes left in the first quarter. Jefferson ended the quarter with a score to tie contest at 2-all.
Dominican outscored their opponents 5-2 in the second frame, with Ortiz scoring two goals, to give the Lady Chargers the 7-4 lead at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Rams cut the deficit to 8-6 with a little over 10 minutes left in the period, but the Dominican offense ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to rebuild a 12-6 lead.
Jefferson scored the first three goals of the final quarter to make the score 12-9 with 6:42 to play, but Costello broke the run with an unassisted goal with 3:13 on the clock for the 13-9 advantage. The Rams closed out the game with the final two goals for the 13-11 DC victory.
