GRELLA, COSTELLO, AND DESTASIO COMBINE FOR 17 GOALS AS DOMINICAN DOWNS MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/13/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team downed the Marauders of Millersville University this afternoon in non-conference action on O'Brien Field.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 4-2 overall while Millersville falls to 2-2.
DU goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made nine saves and recorded the victory in goal to improve to 4-2. Kaszovitz also picked up a team-high four ground balls.
Marauders keeper Morgan Scott recorded six saves but suffered the loss to fall to 2-2.
Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.), Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), and Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) combined for 17 goals and seven assists to lead the Lady Chargers.
Grella led the way in goals with seven and added one assist while DeStasio scored five goals and recorded one assist.
Costello also scored five goals and recorded a team-high five assists for a team leading 10 points in the win.
Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.) scored three goals and grabbed a team-high nine draw controls. Sydney Strohmayer (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Alexa Preston (Coram, N.Y.) each scored one goal and added two assists. Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) added one goal.
Erin Carr (Wall, N.J.) picked up three ground balls and also added three draw controls.
The Lady Chargers opened the game on a quick 8-0 run. The Marauders finished the opening quarter with three unanswered goals and extended the run to four to start the second quarter.
Millersville cut the DU lead to 9-6 but the Lady Chargers extended their lead to 13-8 by halftime.
Dominican outscored the Marauders 10-5 in the second half on their way to the 23-13 victory.
Millersville was led by Ashlyn Simonetti who scored four goals while Kaleigh Funk scored three goals. Liv Genovese added a team-high eight draw controls while Rachel Keeney recorded five draw controls.
DU returns to action this weekend when they open conference play as they take on the Tigers of Holy Family University at 12:00 PM.
