WOMEN'S LACROSSE SECURES SECOND CONSECUTIVE CACC TITLE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/5/24) The Dominican University New York women's lacrosse team secured their second straight CACC Tournament title this afternoon after defeating the Georgian Court University Lions on O'Brien Field in Orangeburg, N.Y.
The #1 overall seed Lady Chargers defeated the #3 seed Lions by a score of 13-8 and finish the 2024 season with 16 overall wins.
DU goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y.) made nine saves and earned her 16th win of the season in net.
Cadence Gentile started in goal for the Lions and suffered the loss. Natalie Moradian entered the game in relief for the Lions and made 10 saves in 48:35 of game action.
The Lady Chargers scored the first goal of the game and stayed in front the rest of the way.
After Dominican took a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter, GCU got on the board after Isabel Raimondi. The Lady Chargers answered with four straight goals including back to back goals by Erica Ortiz (Slate Hill, N.Y.).
The Lions ended the run with a late goal with 10 seconds left in the quarter by Bryleigh Tejchman.
Dominican outscored the Lions 4-2 in the second quarter and held a 10-4 advantage by halftime.
Raimondi and Remi Reinhardt each scored in the third quarter for the Lions while Madelyn Grella (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) scored her third goal of the game and DU held an 11-6 lead by the start of the fourth quarter.
Reinhardt picked up her third goal early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 11-7. Later in the fourth quarter, Gianna Nardini scored her second goal of the game which brought the Lions within three goals for the first time since the first quarter.
Jordana Tomasetti (Middletown, N.J.) and Grace DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y.) each scored late in the fourth quarter to extend the Lady Chargers lead to 13-8 and secured their second straight CACC title.
Three Lady Chargers finished with hat tricks. Madelyn Grella, Jordana Tomasetti, and Erica Ortiz each netted three goals. Grella added one assist and one ground ball while Ortiz added one assist and four draw controls. Tomasetti picked up two ground balls.
DeStasio scored two goals while recording two assists and picked up two ground balls and four draw controls. Anna Kaminskey (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and Ellie Brouwer (West Long Branch, N.J.) each scored one goal.
Caitlin Costello (Seaford, N.Y.) recorded team-highs in assists with three and draw controls with five. Jenna Rigo (East Islip, N.Y.) picked up two ground balls and added one caused turnover which is her 81st caused turnover of her career and sets the new program record.
The Lions were led by Remi Reinhardt who finished with a hat trick while Isabel Raimondi scored two goals and recorded two assists for a team-high four points.
Gianna Nardini scored two goals while Bryleigh Tejchman finished with one goal. Reilly O'Connor added two assists while Kasha Elzinga and Caitlin Petrellese each added one assist.
