CHARGERS EARN FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON WITH A SWEEP OVER QUEENS COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/30/22) The Dominican University New York women’s volleyball team earned their first win of the 2022 season with a 3-0 sweep over the Knights of Queens College.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/30/22) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team earned their first win of the 2022 season with a 3-0 sweep over the Knights of Queens College.
The Chargers improve to 1-3 overall on the season and the Knights fall to 2-3 overall.
Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) and Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla,) combined for 26 kills by recording 13 each. Carr added 14 points and seven digs while Perez finished with 14.5 points and 10 digs.
Alessandra Pantoja (Lewisville, Texas) recorded a team-high in assists with 29 and digs with 12. Nicolette Piscopo (Wantagh, N.Y.) added 11 digs. Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) and Lindley McCutcheon (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) each added five kills. McCutcheon added 8.5 points while Ellis added 6.5 points.
For the Knights, Kendall Conrad finished with 9.5 points and eight kills. Ryann Frontera added a team-leading 16 digs while Despina Boudouris finished with 11 assists.
The Chargers took the first set by a score of 25-19 and followed up with a 25-17 win in the second set. The Chargers closed out the sweep with a comeback victory in the third set by a score of 25-20.
Dominican used a late 8-2 run in the first set to solidify the victory for the 1-0 advantage. The Chargers got off to a fast start in the second set with a 7-0 run. The Knights cut into the deficit but the Chargers were able to take the 2-0 match lead.
In the third set, Queens held a 16-13 lead over Dominican but the Chargers rallied and used a 12-4 run to close out the win.
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, September 3rd when they host the Lions of Molloy University at 3:30 PM.
