After dropping the opening set, 25-17, the Chargers won the second and third sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. The Eagles forced the decisive fifth set with a 25-16 fourth set win, but Dominican New York brought home the win with a 15-9 fifth set win and 3-2 match victory.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Carr (Rogers, Ark.) had a match leading 16 kills and completed the double-double with 13 defensive digs.
Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) posted a career high 11 kills and a .346 attack percentage, while Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) recorded 11 kills and nine digs.
Setter Alessandra Pantoja (Lewisville, Texas) tallied a career high 44 assists and 10 defensive digs and Linda Armao Peng (Houston, Texas) recorded 20 defensive digs in the win.
Lydimar Soto posted a team high 14 kills for the Eagles, while Maria Fernanda Branco tallied 32 assists and Alyssa Groves had a team best 18 digs.
Dominican used a 6-1 in set two to turn a 10-10 tie into a 16-11 advantage. A kill from Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) and a Post serving error closed out a 25-21 set win.
The Chargers never trailed in the third set as Carr served for four straight points, including two service aces.
With the fifth set tied at 5-all, Dominican went on a 7-0 run with sophomore Lindley McCutcheon (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) serving for six points of the points and picking up two service aces to pull ahead, 12-5. Tody recorded the game-winning kills for the 15-9 set win and 3-2 match victory.
Dominican returns to action on Thursday evening when they travel to CACC foe, the University of Bridgeport.
