Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/22/22) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team downed the Tigers of Holy Family University in a 3-0 sweep.
The win snaps a four game losing streak for the Chargers who improve to 10-13 overall and 8-6 in conference play. The Tigers fell to 13-2 overall and 11-2 in the conference.
The Chargers got off to a fast start to open the match on a 9-2 run. The Chargers would continue their strong start by extending their lead to 15-5 over HFU.
The Chargers extended to a 21-11 lead but the Tigers closed the gap by using a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 21-18.
Dominican scored the last four points of the opening set to close out the 25-18 victory and take a 1-0 match lead.
The Chargers took a 2-0 lead over the Tiger after completing a 25-17 victory in the second set. Dominican led the second set after jumping out to a 6-1 lead. The Tigers cut the deficit to one but Dominican used an 8-0 run to extend out to a 15-7 lead.
The Chargers finished off the second set on a 10-5 run and took a 2-0 match lead.
Dominican opened up the third set by scoring five unanswered points. The Tigers were able to cut the deficit but the Chargers continued to answer on their way to a 25-17 victory in the third set and completed the sweep.
Aaliyah Ellis (League City, Texas) and Emmalyn LaPier (Endicott, N.Y.) combined for 23 kills. LaPier also added 14 points and 11 digs while Ellis finished with 14.5 points and five block assists.
Setter Alessandra Pantoja (Lewisville, Texas) recorded a team-high 33 assists and also added 10 digs. Elizabeth Perez (Miami, Fla.) finished the match with nine kills, five digs, and 10 points.
Andreya Davis (Peekskill, N.Y.) and Savannah Tody (Minneapolis, Minn.) each added six kills. Davis finished with seven points while Tody finished with 7.5 points.
The Tigers were led by Skylar Osenkarski who recorded 11 kills and added 11 points. Morgan Steck finished with 27 assists and eight digs. Faith Zehnder also added eight digs.
Dominican returns to action next Tuesday, October 25th when they travel to Felician University for a CACC North Division match with the Golden Falcons at 7:00 PM.
