NDUKAUBA SCORES CAREER HIGH IN VICTORY OVER LIONS
Rutherford, N.J. (11/25/23) Center Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netted a career high 27 points to lead the Dominican University New York women's basketball team to a 70-67 overtime victory over Molloy University in the first game of the Felician Holiday Classic, hosted by Felician University in Job Gymnasium.
The victory lifts the Lady Chargers to 1-4 overall, while the Lions fall to 1-3 on the season.
Molloy led 23-11 after the first quarter of play and outscored Dominican 13-11 in the second frame to take a 34-24 advantage at the break.
The Lady Chargers netted 17 points in the third quarter to the Lions 11 to cut the deficit to 45-41 at the end of three quarters of play. In the fourth period, Dominican used a 7-0 spurt to put them ahead 50-49. Both teams would trade points in the final three minutes with Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) scoring the final bucket of regulation to force the overtime period.
With the score tied at 58-all with 4:33 to play, the Lady Chargers went on a 7-0 run, capped off by a jumper from Ndukauba. Ndukauba gave DUNY the 70-64 advantage on two free throws with three ticks left and the game concluded with a trey by the Lions for the 70-67 Dominican victory.
Ndukauba finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead three Lady Chargers in double figures.
Suarez and Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored 14 points a piece, with Suarez adding four steals and Howard pulling down 10 rebounds.
Guard Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.) added four assists in the win.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow at the Felician Holiday Classic when they take on Queens College.
