WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS FIRST CACC VICTORY OF THE SEASON
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/3/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team earned their first CACC victory of the season over north division rival Bloomfield College of MSU.
With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Bears fall to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the CACC.
Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the way for the Lady Chargers with 26 points on 9-17 shooting including six three-pointers. Howard also recorded nine boards.
Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted her third double-double of the season with 14 points and a career high 19 rebounds. Ndukauba entered the half with 11 boards and 10 points.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) added a team-high nine assists and four steals while also scoring 12 points and recorded seven boards. Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) dished out eight assists and scored seven points.
The Lady Chargers played a strong first half and held a double-digit lead by halftime. Dominican extended to their largest lead of the game which was 14 towards the end of the third quarter.
The Bears used a 15-5 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to three points before Howard hit her sixth three-pointer of the game to extend the lead and Dominican later solidified the 72-62 victory.
The Bears were led by Kamrin Babbs who scored a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Taneshia Tucker scored 12 points while Anisha Able recorded a team-high 10 boards.
Dominican returns to action this Saturday on the road when they visit the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
