GRIFFINS TOP LADY CHARGERS IN 23RD ANNUAL SUE HELLER GAME
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/27/24) The Chestnut Hill College women's basketball squad topped the Dominican University New York Lady Chargers, 70-60, this afternoon in the 23rd Sue Heller Memorial Game held on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
The Griffins improve to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, while Dominican falls to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the CACC.
Before the start of the game, the annual Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship was presented to this year's recipient: Angelina DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y.).
The first quarter saw the Lady Chargers net back-to-back baskets to claim a 12-8 advantage with 4:09 on the clock. CHC would close out the quarter on a 12-5 run to take a 20-18 lead.
A trey from Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.) with under four minutes to play before the break regained the edge for Dominican, 28-27, but six unanswered points by the Griffins rebuilt a 33-28 lead at the break.
Chestnut Hill added to the lead by out scoring Dominican, 17-14, in the third frame and 20-18 in the fourth in bringing home the 70-60 win.
Mills led four Lady Chargers in double figures with a season high 15 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Cayla Howard (Naugatuck, Conn.) netted 14 points and five caroms, while Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) and Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and nine rebounds each in the loss.
