DOMINICAN DEFEATS COUGARS IN CACC ACTION
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/24/24) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell University, 96-71, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division action played on Coach Baxter Court.
With the win Dominican improves to 12-14 overall and 8-7 in conference play, while Caldwell falls to 7-18 overall and 3-11 in the CACC.
Prior to the start of the game, the Lady Chargers honored seniors: #4 Tanasha Mills (New City, N.Y.), #24 Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) and #44 Chidinma Ndukauba (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
Caldwell opened the game with the first basket, but the teams would trade scores throughout the rest of the quarter to sit tied at 18-18.
The Lady Chargers outscored the Cougars, 22-14, in the second period to claim a 40-32 lead at the break.
Dominican would never lose the lead in the second half and would lead by as many as 30 points en route to the 96-71 win.
Sophomore Cayla Howard (Nagatuck, Conn.) led four players in double figures with 25 points (11-15 from the floor) and 12 rebounds.
Mills also had a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists, while Suarez tallied 18 points and a game leading 12 assists.
Forward Ndukauba finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Felician University.
