RALLY FALLS SHORT AS BASEBALL LOSES TO UMASS-LOWELL
Lowell, MA (4/21/11) The Dominican College baseball team rallied from a 6-4 deficit, but fell in the bottom of the ninth to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, currently ranked 29th in the country, 7-6, this afternoon in a non-conference game played at LeLacheur Park. With the loss Dominican falls to 20-14 on the season.

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the first as second basemen Michael Levy, Jr (Salisbury Mill, NY) led off the game wth an infield single up-the-middle and advanced to second on a River Hawk error. Freshman Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas) was hit by a pitch and Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) reached on a fielder's choiceto put runners on the corners with one out. Senior Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) ht a sacrifice fly ball to right field to score Levy and give DC the lead.
UMASS-Lowell answered back with three runs in the bottom stanza to go up 3-1, but DC got a run back in the second as Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) drew a lead-off walk, stole second, advanced to third on an infield single and later scored on a passed ball to make the score 3-2.
The River Hawks regained a two run lead in the bottom of the second and added a run in the sixth to go ahead 5-2.
The Chargers put two runs on the board in the top half of the seventh inning as Christopher Brown (Tenafly, NJ) led off the inning iwth a single to right field, moved to second and third on ground outs and came home on a passed ball. Lopez drew a walk, stole second and Robinson tallied his second RBI of the game as he hit an RBI single up-the-middle to cut the deficit to 5-4.
UMASS-Lowell added a run in the bottom of the seventh to regain a two run lead (6-4), but the Chargers rallied in the ninth, scoring two runs with two outs to tie the contest at 6-6. Levy hit a one out single up-the-middle and moved to third on the two out single to left center field off the bat of Lopez. Robinson delivered the big two run single to center field to record his third and fourth RBIs of the game.
An RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth gave UMASS-Lowell the 7-6 victory.
Right-handed pitcher Caleb Whiteley (San Antonio, TX) suffered the loss (1-2) in three innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits. Starter Jordan Paszek (Sussex, WI) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits.
