Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/10/25) The #10 Dominican University New York baseball team extended their winning streak to 14 games today after sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader from the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University in games played this afternoon at Clover Stadium.
Dominican took the first game, 12-2 in eight innings and won the nightcap, 6-1, to improve to 26-11 overall and 20-6 in CACC play.
Game One: The Chargers struck for two runs in the bottom of the second inning as Juan Peralta and David Knepper recorded consecutive RBI hits and later a run scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
CACC Player of the Week, Kevin Hirsch, increased the lead to 4-0 in the third frame with a sacrifice fly ball to right field.
In the bottom of the fourth, Erick Diaz, Byron Arias and Jaden Maia hit back-to-back-to-back run-scoring hits to increase the lead to 7-0.
DUNY added to the lead in the fifth on a fielder's choice and a bases loaded walk and scored two more in the sixth on the home run off the bat of Peralta to extend the lead to 11-0.
The Wildcats got on the board with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Dominican ended the game in the eighht as Diaz hit an RBI single down the left field line.
Maia went 3-4 in the game, while Peralta and Diaz finished with two hits and three RBIs each.
Luis Rivera earned the complete game with five strikeouts.
Game Two: Dominican scored in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch and added three more in the third on the RBI double by Arias and the two-run blast over the left field fence by Maia to make the score 4-0.
WU got a run back in the top of the fourth, but DUNY countered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on the RBI double by Knepper and the sacrifice fly ball from Ryan Bongiorno en route to the 6-1 victory.
Maia finished the game with two RBIs.
Anthony Leak picked up the win and collecting eight strikeouts.
Dominican is scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they host non-conference opponent, St. Thomas Aquinas College at Clover Stadium.
