DEACONS SNAP CHARGERS WINNING STREAK
Bloomfield, NJ (1/6/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team had their six game winning streak snapped this evening by host, Bloomfield College, 71-65, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division contest held at the Deacon Den.

A layup from sophomore forward Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, MD) gave Dominican a 10-5 lead with 15:13 left in the first half, but a 7-0 run by the Deacons put them ahead 12-10 with just over ten minutes to go. DC put together a 5-0 run on a trey from freshman guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) and a basket from sophomore Preston Smith (Mays Landing, NJ) to regain a 15-12 advantage.
Bloomfield went on to score the next 17 of 21 points over the next five minutes to gain their biggest lead of the game at 26-18. Leading 28-20 with 2:58 on the clock before the intermission, Dominican closed out the half with seven consecutive points, capped off by a dunk from freshman Nick Smith (Middletown, NY) to cut the deficit toe 28-27 at the break.
Forward Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) started things off in the second stanza with a layup and Dominican went on to score the next nine points on with five of those points from guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) to build up a ten point lead (38-28) with 16:21 to go in the game.
With Dominican up 48-35 and 11:26 left on the clock, the Deacons went on 16-2 run to re-take the lead at 53-47 with just over seven minutes on the clock. BC would extend their lead to as many as 11 points (66-55) with 1:58 to go, but Dominican closed out the game, outscoring Bloomfield 10-5 and ended the game with a dunk from senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) for the final 71-65 score.
Hodzic led two Chargers in double figures with his second straight double-double of 18 points (8-16 from the field) and 12 rebounds, to go along with a team leading six assists. Porter finished with 16 points, shooting 5-11 from the floor, while Quimby added eight points, 11 caroms and a team leading four blocks.
With the loss Dominican now stands at 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the CACC.
Dominican travels to Holy Family University this coming Saturday for a 3pm CACC contest.
