Down 3-0 in the opening minute of play, the Chargers went on a 13-2 run with freshman guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) scoring nine of those points on back-to-back treys and three shots from the charity stripe to take a 13-5 lead.
The Wildcats fought back to cut the deficit to a point (21-20) with 4:46 to go before intermission and used a 3-1 spurt to go up 23-22. The last basket of the half came from sophomore Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) as he netted a three point bucket to give DC a 25-22 lead at the break.
Wilmington came back in the second half to hold an early 32-29 lead with 17:54 to go, but the Chargers charged back with a 10-2 run to re-gain a 39-34 advantage with 15:11 on the clock. DC led 54-45 with just over two and a half left in regulation, when the Wildcats netted seven consecutive points to cut the lead to two points (54-52) with 51 ticks left on the clock.
A free throw from sophomore Preston Smith (Mays Landing, NJ) closed out the scoring and saw the Chargers come away with the 55-52 victory.
Porter led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 4-7 from the three point arc in the victory. Ginyard finished with 13 points, while senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) tallied seven points, a game leading 13 rebounds and six blocks.
Dominican returns to action on Monday night when they travel to CACC foe, Felician College, for an 8pm game.
