Rutherford, NJ (2/7/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division opponent, Felician College, 70-61, this evening in a game held at Job Gymnasium. With the loss Dominican falls to 13-10 overall and 9-4 in conference play.
The Chargers scored the first points of the game on a Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) jumper for the early 2-0 lead, but the Golden Falcons answered back with a 22-5 run to go up 22-7 with 9:45 on the clock before the intermission and went into halftime with a 34-22 lead.
DC cut the lead to seven points (43-46) as sophomore Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) scored a layup with 12:45 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get as Felician came away with the 70-61 victory.
Hodzic led four Chargers in double figures with 12 points, nine rebounds and a game leading six blocks in the loss. Sophomore Preston Smith (Mays Landing, NJ) came off the bench to score 11 points (shooting 4-6 from the floor), while guards Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) and Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) each netted 10 points a-piece, with Porter getting a game leading four steals.
Quimby finished with seven points and five rebounds. As a team the Chargers shot just 36.4% from the floor (20-55) and were 5-19 (26.3%) from three point land.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday night when they host Caldwell College in a CACC North Division game to be played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm.
