MEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

(11/25/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 4-2 on the season after defeating the visiting Firebirds from the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon in a non-conference game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennesy Center. With the loss, UDC falls to 1-5 overall.

(11/25/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 4-2 on the season after defeating the visiting Firebirds from the University of the District of Columbia this afternoon in a non-conference game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennesy Center. With the loss, UDC falls to 1-5 overall.
The game was tied at 19-19 (the sixth tie of the contest) with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half when Dominican went on a 8-1 run to go up 27-20 and closed out the half outscoring UDC, 9-2, to take a 40-32 lead.
The Firebrids cut the deficit to 59-54 with 7:16 left in regulation, but two free throws from senior Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and a trey from guard Leon Porter II (Laurel, Md.) gave DC a ten point advantage (64-54) and the Chargers went on to the 75-62 win.
Porter led four Chargers in double figures with 14 points (shooting 3-4 from the three point arc).
Senior center Cory Quimby (Otisville, N.Y.) and Woods each had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Forward Tyler Stradford (Staten Island, N.Y.) also scored 11 points.
Dominican is back in action on Wednesday evening at the Hennessy Center.
