CHARGERS BASKETBALL EARN VICTORY OVER BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/6/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 69-64, this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (12/6/12) The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 69-64, this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The first ten minutes of the contest saw three tied scores with the last being a 12-12 score with just over twelve minutes left in the half. DC then went on to score seven straight points to claim their biggest lead of the half, 19-12 with 9:56 to go.
The Deacons came back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 19-17, but freshman Joe Clinton (Pearl River, N.Y.) went 2-2 from the charity stripe to rebuild a 21-17 and Dominican led 25-19 with 1:49 to go. A Deacon trey as time expired made the score 27-26 at the break.
Tied at 44-all with just under ten minutes remaining in the second stanza, the Deacons went on an 8-2 run to pull ahead 52-46 and led 57-52 with 5:51 on the clock. The Chargers went on a 6-0 run as senior center Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.) completed a three point play and Clinton drilled a big three point basket to regain the lead for DC, 58-57.
BC came back to hold a 61-60 lead with just over two minutes to go, but a trey from A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and a jumper from Leon Porter II* (Laurel, Md.) put Dominican ahead for good (65-61) en route to the 69-64 victory.
Porter and Burton led three Chargers in double figures as they each scored 15 poiints, with Burton completing the double-double with 11 rebounds. Porter had a team leading four assists, while shooting 5-10 from the floor.
Quimby also fiinished with a double-double of 14 points and a team leading 12 rebounds.
