QUIMBY SCORES 1,000TH CAREER POINT AS DOMINICAN BEATS LE MOYNE COLLEGE

(1/2/13) Dominican College men's basketball player, Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.), netted his 1,000th career point as the team defeated the visiting Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 56-51, this evening in the second game of the 7th Annual James Clancy Memorial Basketball Tournament held at the Hennessy Center. In the first game, Franklin Pierce University topped Queens College, 66-60.

In the first game, Franklin Pierce University topped Queens College, 66-60.
Quimby recorded his 1,000th career point with 16:22 remaining in the contest as he scored a layup in the paint to extend the Charger lead to 34-24. Fouled on the play, he completed the and-one for his 1,000th point as a Charger.
Tied at 6-all with 15:24 remaining in the first stanza, Dominican went on a 9-0 run that included back-to-back treys from senior Leon Porter II (Laurel, Md.) and sophomore A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to give DC a 15-6 and later extended the lead to double-digits (23-11) with 3:23 on the clock. A 9-3 Dolphin run closed out first half play and cut the deficit to 26-20.
Dominican never trailed in the second half as Quimby began the half with Dominican's first nine points to put them head 35-24 with 16:22 to play. The Chargers held a 52-43 lead with a little over two minutes to go when Le Moyne went on an 8-0 tear to cut the lead to a single point (52-51) with 21 ticks left on the clock.
As Le Moyne was forced to foul, Porter solidified the victory with four free throws for the 56-51 win.
Porter led all scorers with 15 points and a game leading five assists.
Quimby recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Daniel Woods scored eight points and nine caroms in the win.
With the victory, Dominican extends their winning streak to seven games and improve to 10-2 overall.
Dominican will take on Franklin Pierce University tomorrow evening in the finale of the 7rh Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament at 7:30 pm on Coach Baxter Court.
