STRONG SECOND HALF LIFTS MEN'S BASKETBALL TO WIN OVER NYACK COLLEGE

(1/28/16) The Dominican College men's basketball squad scored 44 second half points to erase a five point deficit at the half to defeat the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 73-66, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash played on Coach Baxter Court.

Senior guard Joe Clinton* (Pearl River, N.Y.) led all players with 18 points (4-7 from the three point arc) and added four rebounds.
Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) proved 16 points, a night best nine rebounds and four assists in reserve.
Freshman Ethan Smith, Jr. (Nyack, N.Y.) scored nine points.
NC scored the first bucket of the game, but Clinton connected on a trey to give DC the 3-2 advantage. Travis Cook (Middletown, N.Y.) would give Dominican their second three-point basket of the half almost two minutes later for the 6-4 lead and Clinton would follow a minute later for the third DC three of the half and put them ahead 9-6.
Nyack came back and later led 26-17 with 5:15 to play in the first half when the Chargers went on a 10-3 run with freshman Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) netting eight points to cut the deficit to 29-27 with 1:19 left in the half. The Warriors closed out first half play with two free throws for the 34-29 edge at the break.
Clinton netted 12 first half points, shooting 3-6 from the three point arc and 4-8 from the floor.
The Warriors increased their lead to 44-37 with 16:04 left in the second stanza when Dominican rallied with 14 unanswered points, including and-one play from Irvin to push in front 51-44 with under ten minutes on the clock.
Nyack would later re-tie the game at 58-58 with 3:42 to go, but a 6-0 spurt capped off by a dunk from Irvin put DC in front for good en route to the 73-66 victory.
Dominican will host Wilmington University this coming Saturday.
