MEN'S BASKETBALL BEATS LIGHTNING
Wilmington, Del. (2/11/16) The Dominican College men's basketball squad beat the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 69-63, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game. With the win, Dominican improves to 9-15 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

Sophomore Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) posted a career high 31 points and completed the double-double with 16 rebounds, shooting 12-17 from the floor and 7-9 from the free throw line.
Ethan Smith, Jr. (Nyack, N.Y.) came off the bench to net 11 points, while Altine King (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added seven points.
The Chargers led 19-14 with a little over nine minutes remaining in the first half when the Chargers went on a 14-4 tear, with Irvin scoring 12 of the points to pull ahead 23-14. Irvin went on to score eight of the 11 final first half points for DC to give them a 36-28 lead at the break.
Irvin scored 22 points in the first half, while grabbing eight rebounds.
GBC countered with an 11-0 opening second half run to gain a 39-38 lead and would lead 50-48 with 9:08 left in regulation. Two foul shots from Smith tied the score at 50-all and he followed with a trey to give Dominican the 53-50 advantage.
The Lightning would cut the deficit to two points with eight ticks to go, but Irvin and Koree Hargraves (Teaneck, N.J.) closed out the contest with four free throws for the 69-63 win.
DC will travel to Chestnut Hill College this coming Saturday.
