RALLY FALLS SHORT AS MERRIMACK SLIPS BY MEN'S BASKETBALL

(1/2/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team rallied from an 18 point half time deficit and recorded 42 points in the second frame, but was unable to pull out the victory as the Merrimack College Warriors held on for the 67-65 win this afternoon in a non-conference game held on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

Junior forward Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) recorded the game's only double-double with a career high 20 rebounds and 20 points.
A layup from freshman Matthew Latka (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) gave Dominican the 13-12 edge with 11:23 to play in the first half when the Warriors went on a 30-11 closing half run to pull ahead 42-24 at the break.
Latka finished with 11 points in the first half.
Dominican trailed by as many as 16 points (30-46) early in the second half and trailed 55-40 with 10:23 on the clock when they charged back with a 15-1 tear to pull within one point, 56-55, with just under three minutes left. Some turnovers foiled the Chargers chances to take the lead anda three-point basket with one second left from Travis Cook (Middletown, N.Y.) made the final score 67-65 Warriors.
Cook and Latka finished with 14 points each and combined for eight boards.
Irvin had a team best four assists.
DC falls to 8-6 overall on the season.
The Chargers will host the University of the Sciences this coming Wednesday night at the Hennessy Center.
