CHARGERS END SEASON WITH LOSS TO MERCY COLLEGE

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (4/26/14)  The Dominican College men's lacrosse team ended the 2014 season with a 17-10 East Coast Conference (ECC) loss to host, Mercy College, this afternoon in a game played at Smith Field.

With the loss, the Chargers end their season with an overall record of 1-13 and a conference record of  0-8.

The Mavericks scored four goals during the first quarter of play to take a 4-0 lead.  MC started off the scoring in the second quarter on a man-up opportunity to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Chargers got on the board with back-to-back goals as senior Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored a goal off the pass from Theodore Wright (Copiague, N.Y.) and Wright later followed with an unassisted goal to cut the lead to 6-2 at the break.

Trailing early in the third quarter, DC went on a 3-0 run to bring them within two goals, 7-5 with just over ten minutes to play in the third.  Wright and Dertinger scored their second game goals, with assists credited to Anton Gjeloshi* (Pomona, N.Y.) and Nicholas Capano (Troy, N.Y.).  Midfielder Hunter Curran (Virginia Beach, Fla.) ended the run with a goal off the pass from Gjeloshi.

A 4-0 Mercy run extended their lead to 11-5, but freshman Tanner Olsen (Chilliwack, Canada) broke the run with his first of three goals after a pass from Dertinger to make the score 11-6 with 1:10 left in the third quarter.

Trailing 12-6 at the end of three quarters of play, Olsen began fourth quarter play with back-to-back goals to complete the hat trick.

Following a 2-0 Mercy run, senior Sean McGregor* (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the game with 6:19 left to play to make the score 14-9.  Another 2-0 Maverick run increased the lead to 16-9, but Tucker Curran (Virginia Beach, Va.) broke the run with his first game goal with just under two minutes to go.  Mercy ended the game with a goal for the 17-10 final.

Senior goalie Matthew Quinones* (Nanuet, N.Y.) made 21 saves in the loss.
