CHARGERS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN OVER BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/31/14) The Dominican College men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 4-2 win over the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the DC Soccer Field.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/31/14) The Dominican College men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 4-2 win over the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the DC Soccer Field.
With the win, the Chargers conlcude the regular season with an overall record of 12-3-1 and a CACC record of 9-2-1.
DC struck for the first three scores of the contest as forward Matheus Sousa (Cuiaba, Brazil) scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick assist from Mark Grant (Tokyo, Japan) in the ninth minute of play for the early 1-0 advantage.
Grant followed with back-to-back goals for his third and fourth goals of the year in the 38th minute and 41st minute to gain the 3-0 lead. Sousa contributed the assist on the first goal on a shot from 10 yards out.
Bloomfield rallied with the first two goals of the second half to pull within a goal, 3-2 with about 28 minutes left to play. Sousa regained a two-goal lead, 4-2, with an unassisted goal at the 80:17 mark for the final 4-2 score.
Keeper Steven Hegner (Pomoma, N.Y.) made one save in the victory.
DC held the offensive advantage with the 11-4 lead in shots and the 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Following the game the team honored seniors: #7 Luis DelPezo (Portchester, N.Y.), #8 Manuel Valencia (New Rochelle, N.Y.), #10 Grant, #11 Nicholas Mavilla (Shelton, Conn.) and #20 Christopher Walsh (Baldwin, N.Y.).
Dominican shares the regular season championship with Philadelphia University and will host a CACC Tournament Quarter-Final game on Tuesday at 2pm on the DC Soccer Field.
