OFFENSE POWERS LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL OVER HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/3/11) The Dominican College softball squad pounded out 22 hits as they won a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header against Holy Family University in games played at the DC Softball Field this afternoon. DC won game one, 4-3 and took the night cap, 9-4 to improve to 18-8 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 8-0. Dominican also extends their winning streak to 11 straight games.

DC won game one, 4-3 and took the night cap, 9-4 to improve to 18-8 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 8-0. Dominican also extends their winning streak to 11 straight games.
Game One: Dominican held a 2-0 lead after one inning of play as sophomore Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) hit her first home run of the season on a two-run blast over the left field fence.
DC added a run in the third as freshman Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) hit a double to left field with two runners on base, which allowed Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) to score and give the Lady Chargers a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers came back with three runs on five hits in the top half of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, but DC answered back with a run in the bottom stanza to pull ahead for the 4-3 victory. Melissa Messina (Hillsdale, NJ) reached base on a one out infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on the fly ball to right field hit by Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ). A Tiger fielding error allowed Messina to score for the 4-3 win.
Reliever Childers picked up the win (9-3) in 3 1/3 innings of relief, scattering just two hits and recording four strikeouts. Starter Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
Childers, Plante and catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) each had two hits in the game.
Game Two: Holy Family held an early 1-0 lead when DC came back with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go ahead 3-1. With two runners on second basemen Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NUY) hit an RBI single to center field to plate Berzak and a one-out RBI single to left field off the bat of junior Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) allowed Kerscher to score. A Tiger fielding error later allowed the third DC run of the inning to score.
Dominican added to their lead with a six-run sixth inning to claim a 9-1 lead after four innings of play. Martinez led off the inning with a double to left center and later scored on the one out RBI single up-the-middle by Plante. Corrao followed with an RBI single to left field and a Tiger fielding error allowed a second run to score. Katryn Coles (Farmville, VA) later followed with an RBI single to left field to score Corrao and pinch hitter Victora LaPorte (Washingtonville, NY) delivered a two-run two out single up-the-middle for the 9-1 lead.
Holy Family came back with a run in the top of the fifth to make the score 9-2 added two more runs in the sixth for the final 9-4 Dominican victory.
Childers improved to 10-3 with the complete game win, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits.
Coles led the Chargers with three hits, while Plante, Corrao and Kerscher each collected two hits in the win.
