DOMINICAN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH POST UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/20/11) The Dominican College softball team split a doubleheader with Post University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. Dominican lost game one, 4-3, and dominated the second game, 10-1, in five innings. With the split Dominican, currently ranked fourth in the East Region, now stands at 25-15 overall and 15-7 in conference play.

Orangeburg, NY (4/20/11) The Dominican College softball team split a doubleheader with Post University this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action. Dominican lost game one, 4-3, and dominated the second game, 10-1, in five innings. With the split Dominican, currently ranked fourth in the East Region, now stands at 25-15 overall and 15-7 in conference play.
Game One: Post scored first in the top of the second inning as four hits and one error led to a four-run inning. Dominican answered in the bottom stanza as freshman first baseman Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA), who reached base on a walk, advanced two bases on a double down the rightfield line by sophomore third baseman Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) and scored on a sacrifice fly ball by sophomore second baseman Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) to put the Chargers on the board, 4-1.
Dominican struck again in the bottom of the fifth as junior centerfielder Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) doubled to right center, advanced to third on a single by junior leftfielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) and scored on a single up the middle by sophomore shortstop Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) to come within two of the Eagles, 4-2.
The Chargers went on to score another run in the bottom of the sixth after Kerscher scored on a left field single off the bat of Jeppson but could not push another run across as Post took the win, 4-3.
Jeppson led the way for the Chargers with going 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Sophomore lefthander Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) was charged with the loss (14-6), allowing four earned runs on four hits in two innings of work.
Game Two: Dominican took advantage of a seven run, six hit third inning and sophomore catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) hit a three run blast in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. DC pounded ten hits in the victory.
Martinez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Corrao and Berzak each had two hits with Corrao driving in four runs and Berzak bringing home two.
Childers earned the victory (15-6) in five innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits and recording seven strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action next Tuesday in a CACC doubleheader against Concordia College scheduled for 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
