STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS ASSUMPTION OVER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Easton, MA (11/20/10) Assumption College scored 56 points in the second half to power past the Dominican College women's basketball team, 89-71, this afternoon on day two of the 2010 Stonehill Classic at Merkert Gymnasium.
Dominican held a ten point advantage (26-16) with 8:49 remaining in the first half after going on a 12-2 tear, capped off by a three point basket from Samantha Klunk (York, PA) to break a 14-14 tie. Leading 30-23 with 6:43 to go before the intermission, the Greyhounds closed out the half, outscoring the Lady Chargers 16-5 to take a 38-35 lead at the intermission.
Assumption started off the second half with a 10-3 run to extend their lead to a ten point margin (48-38) and built up a 56-44 lead with 13:45 to go. DC cut the lead to five points twice in the half, once on a three point bucket from guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) and later on a layup by Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ), but Assumption went on a 18-9 run to rebuild an 80-66 lead and never looked back en route to the 89-71 victory.
Lopez led four Lady Chargers in double figures with 12 points and had a team leading four assists. Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) netted 11 points, while Klunk finished also finished with 11 points off the bench. Guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) added 10 points and grabbed a team leading five rebounds in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 2-2 on the season.
DC is back in action on Saturday, November 27th when they travel to Syracuse, NY to take on non-conference opponent, Le Moyne College at 2pm.
