Caldwell, NJ (12/11/10) The Dominican College women's basketball team lost their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the 2010-2011 season to host, Caldwell College, 62-54, this evening in a CACC North Division clash held at the George R. Newman Center.
The Cougars quickly took a 15-4 lead in the first five minutes of the contest, but DC fought back with nine straight points, with six of those points coming from sophomore forward Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) to cut the lead to 15-13 with just over eleven minutes left before the intermission. A basket from freshman KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) brought Dominican within a point (29-28) with 2:17 remaining in the half, but Caldwell used a buzzer jumpshot to go into halftime with a 31-28 lead.
Caldwell started off the second half outscoring Dominican, 10-3, to rebuild a 41-31 advantage with about ten minutes to play. Three point baskets from junior Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) and guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) pulled DC within three points (47-44) with 5:52 to go in the game, but that would be as close as they would get as the Cougars came away with the victory.
Murphy and forward Marley Klunk (York, PA) paced Dominican with 10 points a piece. Lavelle and Harris each netted six points each, while Samantha Klunk (York, PA) and Jentzen both led the team with six rebounds. Junior Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) had a team leading four steals in the loss.
Dominican falls to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the loss.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday, December 18th when they host Le Moyne College in a non-conference game to be played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center at 2pm.
