WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ADELPHI UNIVERSITY
Garden City, NY (12/30/10) The Dominican College women's basketball team fell to host Adelphi University, 62-48, this evening in a non-conference game. The Panthers limited the Lady Chargers to just 18 points in the second half after taking a slim 32-30 lead into the intermission at the Center for Recreation and Sport (CRS).

The Panthers limited the Lady Chargers to just 18 points in the second half after taking a slim 32-30 lead into the intermission at the Center for Recreation and Sport (CRS).
Through the first seven and a half minutes of action both team traded baskets with Adelphi up 15-14 with 12:20 left in the first half. The Panthers would extend their lead to six, 22-16, with 7:17 remaining after a jumper shot basket. A 9-2 rally by the Lady Chargers would put them up 25-24, after a Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) bucket with just over four minutes remaining before the break.
Two AU free throws regained a one point lead with 3:33 on the clock, but five straight points from sophomore guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY), including a three-point basket gave DC a 30-28 lead with 2:17 left before the break. With the score even at 30-30 with four second lefts, AU converted a lay-up to go up two at the half, 32-30.
The Panthers opened the second half on a 10-0 run to build up a 42-30 lead. Dominican cut the Panthers' lead to four, 44-40, with 12:33 left in the contest after a jumper from Scully.
Over the next three minutes, Adelphi would extend their lead back up to double digits, 51-40. The Panthers would maintain a double digit cushion for the majority of the second half to secure the victory.
Dominican shot 34.0% from the field and went a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe in the loss.
Lavelle led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 13 points. Scully finished with 12 points, while sophomore Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) added 11 points in the loss.
Following the loss Dominican falls to 4-6 on the season.
DC returns to action on Thursday, January 6th when they travel to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Bloomfield College, for a 6pm game.
