Bloomfield, NJ (1/6/11) Despite a career high 26 point performance from sophomore guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) the Dominican College women's basketball team fell to host, Bloomfield College, 61-49, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash held at the Deacon Den. The Lady Deacons held the Lady Chargers to just 19 second half points in the victory.
Lopez opened the game with her first of seven three-pointers of the contest to give DC a 3-0 lead and later gave the team a 22-13 lead with another three point basket with 11:26 left in the first half. Eight straight points from the Lady Deacons pulled them to within a point with just over seven minutes left on the clock.
Tied at 26-26, Bloomfield took their first lead of the game on a free throw, followed by a layup from junior Samantha Klunk (York, PA) which put Dominican ahead, 27-28, with 2:19 left before the intermission. Back-to-back baskets from the Lady Deacons put them up 31-28 and Lopez closed out the half with a basket for a 31-30 BC edge.
Bloomfield started the first 4:59 of the second half on a 13-1 tear to take a 44-31 lead, but consecutive three-pointers from Lopez cut the lead to seven points (44-37). The Deacons outscored Dominican, 12-6, over the next eight minutes to hold a 56-43 lead with 4:17 left in regulation. A DC basket with 1:19 made the BC lead under ten points, but that would be as close as they would get as the Lady Deacons went on to the 61-49 victory.
Lopez led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 9-13 from the floor and 7-10 from the three point arc. Samantha Klunk finished with seven points, while forward Marley Klunk (York, PA) finished with a game leading 10 rebounds.
With the loss Dominican falls to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the CACC.
DC is back in action on Saturday when they travel to #15 Holy Family University for a 1pm CACC contest.
