LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL DROP FIFTH STRAIGHT TO HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Philadelphia, PA (1/8/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team dropped their fifth straight contest this afternoon to Holy Family University, currently ranked 15th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, 78-60, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held at the Campus Center.
Philadelphia, PA (1/8/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team dropped their fifth straight contest this afternoon to Holy Family University, currently ranked 15th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II National Top-25 Coaches' Poll, 78-60, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held at the Campus Center.
Holy Family never trailed in the first half, taking a 9-1 lead to start the game and increased the lead to double-digits, 25-14, with 9:13 left before the break. The Tigers went on to close out the first stanza, outscoring DC 21-9 to take a 46-23 lead at the intermission.
The Tigers led by as many as 31 points (54-23) early in the second half, but a 12-0 spurt by the Lady Chargers, capped off by back-to-back treys from sophomore guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) cut the lead to 54-35 with 13:22 left in regulation.
A three point basket from sophomore Chelsea Aronica (Staten Island, NY) closed out the scoring in the game and saw the Tigers get the 78-60 victory. In the process, Holy Family increased its NCAA Division II record of consecutive regular season conference victories to 109 and improved its home regular season winning streak to 70.
Aronica led the Lady Chargers with 10 points, shooting 3-5 from the three point arc. Lopez and junior Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) each netted nine points in the loss.
Following the loss Dominican falls to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the CACC while Holy Family University improves to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
DC is back in action on Tuesday when they host Felician College in a 6pm CACC contest on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
