FELICIAN COLLEGE TOPS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, NY (1/11/11) The visiting Golden Falcons of Felician College topped the Dominican College women's basketball team, 52-46, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The loss marks the Lady Chargers sixth straight setback to now stand at 4-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Orangeburg, NY (1/11/11) The visiting Golden Falcons of Felician College topped the Dominican College women's basketball team, 52-46, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. The loss marks the Lady Chargers sixth straight setback to now stand at 4-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Tied 9-9 with 15:27 left in the first stanza, DC went on a 5-0 spurt on a three point bucket by guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) and a layup from senior Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) to put them ahead 14-9. Eight straight points from Felician gave them a 17-14 advantage and Dominican came back twice to cut the lead to a point (16-17 and 18-19) before a jump shot from freshman KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) regained a slight 20-19 lead. The Golden Falcons went on to outscore the Lady Chargers 11-2 in the final 3:54 to head into halftime with a 30-22 lead.
Dominican started the scoring in the second half with the first nine points, with seven of them coming from sophomore guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) to re-take a 31-30 lead with just over 14 minutes to go. With the score at 35-all Felician went on an 11-2 run to go up 46-37 with 6:15 left in regulation.
Seven straight Lady Charger points brought them to within two points (44-46) and were able to pull within a point (46-47) with 32 seconds left, but Felician pulled out the 56-42 win by going 5-5 from the charity stripe.
Lavelle led two Lady Chargers in double figures with 16 points. Scully finished with 10 points, while Jentzen added six points and a team leading eight rebounds off the bench in the loss.
Destiny Barnette led the Golden Falcons with 12 points, while Quay Baskerville had the game's only double-double with 11 points and 10 caroms.
DC returns to action Saturday, January 22nd when they host Felician College in a CACC North Division clash on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Game time is slated for 2pm.
