WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EDGES CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (1/25/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team edged the visiting Clippers of Concordia College, 61-57, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the victory the Lady Chargers completed a season series sweep of the Clippers.
Orangeburg, NY (1/25/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team edged the visiting Clippers of Concordia College, 61-57, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the victory the Lady Chargers completed a season series sweep of the Clippers.
Dominican held a 10-6 lead with 17:15 remaining in the first half when a 6-0 run by the Clippers saw them go up 12-10. DC answered back with the next eight points to regain an 18-12 lead with 13:23 on the clock. The Clippers clipped the lead to a bucket with just over ten minutes to go, but an 8-1 run by the Lady Chargers put them ahead 30-21 with just under six and half minutes to go before the break and went into the intermission with a 38-34 advantage.
Concordia opened up the second half with a 7-2 run to go up 41-40, but two free throws from freshman KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) regained a 42-41 edge for DC. Dominican led 49-45 with 8:48 left in the game when a 8-2 spurt by Concordia put them up 52-51. Tied at 54-54 with under three minutes remaining Dominican went on to outscore Concordia 7-2 over the reamaining 2:18 on the clock, including senior Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) and sophomore Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) each going 2-2 from the charity stripe in the finall 11 seconds to secure a 61-57 victory.
Lopez led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 16 points. Jentzen came off the bench to net 13 points and nine rebounds, while guard Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) tallied 12 points in the win. Senior Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) grabbed a team leading 11 caroms.
With the victory Dominican improves to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the CACC.
DC returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Philadelphia University for a 6pm CACC contest.
