WOMEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (2/12/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team upended the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 7055, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Today's game also marked the 10th Annual Sue Heller Memorial Game.
Orangeburg, NY (2/12/11) The Dominican College women's basketball team upended the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 7055, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Today's game also marked the 10th Annual Sue Heller Memorial Game.
Dominican traield by ten points (13-23) with 10:17 left in the first half when the Lady Chargers charged back with a 10-0 run as sophomore guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) netted eight of those points to tie the score at 23-23 with just over five and half minutes before the break. DC closed out the first half with the final seven points to take a 34-27 lead.
The Griffins cut the lead to a point (34-33) early in the second half but a dominating 22-4 run by Dominican over the next eleven minutes put them ahead 56-37 and they never looked back en route to the 70-55 victory.
Senior guard Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) led four Lady Chargers in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) finished with 14 points (shooting 50% from the floor) and five rebounds, while Marley Klunk (York, PA) came off the bench to score 13 points and a team leading four steals.
Lopez tallied 12 points, while senior Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) grabbed a team leading 12 rebounds and five assists in the victory.
With the victory Dominican improves to 8-14 overall and 6-9 in the CACC.
During halftime, Dominican College honored the memory of Sue Heller and presented the 2011 Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship to junior Kaity Lent.
DC returns to action on Thursday night when they travel to Post University in a CACC North Division game. Tip-off is slated for 6pm.
