GOLDEY-BEACOM COLLEGE RALLIES TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Orangeburg, NY (2/25/11) The Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball rallied from a nine point deficit at halftime and held the Dominican College Lady Chargers to 16 second half points to defeat the host, 59-50 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (2/25/11) The Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball rallied from a nine point deficit at halftime and held the Dominican College Lady Chargers to 16 second half points to defeat the host, 59-50 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center.
Tied 14-14 with 11:37 left in the first stanza, the Lady Chargers went on a 16-3 tear to take a 32-17 lead with 4:45 left on the clock. The Lightning closed out the half, outscoring DC 8-2 to cut the lead to 34-25 at the break.
GBC stayed on a roll in the second half as they went on a 20-8 over the span of about 12 minutes to go up 44-43 with 8:47 left in regulation. Two free throws from senior Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) reclaimed a 45-44 advantage for the Lady Chargers. Tied at 50-50 with 3:42 to go, an and-one play from GBC put them up 53-50 and would close out the game going 6-6 from the charity stripe for the 59-50 victory.
Dominican struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 6-31 (19.4%) from the floor and were 0-13 from the three point arc to finish the game 18-63 (28.6%). DC was better from the free throw line, going 12-16 (75.0%).
Scully led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 14 points. Junior guard Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) tallied 13 points, while sophomore Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) finished with 11 points.
Senior Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) netted six points and had six caroms in the loss.
Before the game Dominican honored seniors Scully and Schinella in a ceremony.
With the loss Dominican ends the regular season with a 9-17 overall and 7-12 CACC record.
Dominican awaits word of a berth in the upcoming CACC Tournament to begin next Monday night. For the Lady Chargers to earn the fourth seed in the North Division, the will need the University of the Sciences to defeat Post University in a game to be tomorrow afternoon.
