Old Westbury, NY (1/30/12) The Dominican College women's basketball team lost a non-conference game to host, New York Institute of Technology, 75-66, this evening in a game played at Recreation Hall. With the loss Dominican now stands at 9-8 overall, while NYIT improves to 13-7 on the season.

The Bears never trailed in the contest as they jumped out to a 19-9 lead with 12:49 to go in the first half. Dominican rallied with a 13-4 spurt to cut the deficit to a single point, 23-22, with 6:45 left before the break. NYIT closed out the half, outscoring DC 12-4 for a 38-30 lead.
NYIT continued to build on their lead as they took a 47-30 lead early in the second stanza and led by as many as 21 points. The Lady Chargers cut the lead to single digits with 27 ticks left on the clock as senior Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) closed out the game with a three point basket for the 75-66 final score.
The bench provided the offense for DC as KC Jentzen (Nanuet, NY) led two Lady Chargers in scoring with 15 points, while adding five rebounds. Rookie LaShonda Hathorne (Queens, NY) added 11 points, a team leading seven caroms and five assists in the loss.
Junior Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) added nine points and six rebounds and guard Kaity Lent* (Vineland, NJ) had a team leading six assists.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday when they host Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Game time is slated for 6pm.
