Philadelphia, Pa. (2/1/14) The Dominican College women's basketball team improved to 7-12 overall and 5-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating host, Chestnut Hill College, 65-62 this afternoon in a game played at the Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins held a five point lead (22-17) with 5:47 remaining in the first stanza when the Lady Chargers turned the tables with a 7-1 run, capped off by back-to-back buckets from senior KC Jentzen* (Pearl River, N.Y.) to give DC the slim 24-23 lead at the break.
Early in the second half, the game was tied at 27-27 when the Lady Chargers charged ahead with a 25-8 run to pull ahead 51-35 with 11:17 remaining. Later ahead 61-49, the Griffins came back with an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 61-60 with 30 ticks left. The Lady Chargers closed out the win with the 4-2 run, all four points coming from free throws, two from Aliyah Alston (Queens, N.Y.) and two from Jentzen for the 65-62 victory.
Jentzen recorded the game's only double-double, her eighth of the season, with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Junior Lashonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) added 13 points and a team leading three steals, while Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) came off the bench to score 11 points and grab nine rebounds in the win.
The Griffins shot better from the floor, shooting 38.7% compared to DC's 36.2%.
Dominican had the edge from both the three point arc and charity stripe. From the arc, the Lady Chargers went 6-18 (33.3%) while the Griffins went 2-14 (14.3%). On the foul line, Dominican shot 17-22 (77.3%) and CHC went 12-16 (75.0%).
DC returns to the court on Wednesday evening as they travel to CACC North Division opponent, Concordia College.
