NEW HAVEN HOLDS ON TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

(12/20/14) The University of New Haven women's basketball squad held on for a 55-47 non-conference victory over the visiting Lady Chargers of Dominican College in a game played this afternoon at Charger Gymnasium. With the loss, DC falls to 5-8 on the season while UNH improves to 8-2.

With the loss, DC falls to 5-8 on the season while UNH improves to 8-2.
UNH netted the first basket of the game and the Dominican countered with the next eight points to go ahead, 8-2. A Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) layup gave DC a 26-22 lead with 2:26 to play in the first half, but New Haven would close out the half with eight unanswered points to take a 30-26 lead at the break.
New Haven would continue the run to start the second half with three points to claim their biggest lead of the game (33-26) and would later extend their lead to 41-32 with 12:01 on the clock. Trailing 51-39 with 4:29 to go in regulation, Dominican went on an 8-0 tear, with six points coming from guard Shannon McGill (Staten Island, N.Y.) on three-point buckets, to bring the Lady Chargers with in four points. A UNH layup put them up six points and the closed out the contest with two free throws for the 55-47 win.
Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y.) paced the Lady Chargers with 16 points and seven rebounds.
McGill and Lashonda Hathorne* (Queens, N.Y.) each chipped in nine points, with Hathorne adding six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Dominican will return to action on January 2, 2015 when they travel to non-conference opponent, Pace University.
