LADY CHARGERS GET REVENGE OVER BEARS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/13/15) The Dominican College women's basketball team avenged a loss earlier in the season to the Bloomfield College Bears by beating them 56-50 this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center. With the win, Dominican improves to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Bears fall to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the CACC.

With the win, Dominican improves to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Bears fall to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the CACC.
The first half saw the contest remain scoreless until the 14th minute of play when senior Lashonda Hathorne* (Queens, N.Y.) went 1-2 from the charity stripe to take the 1-0 advantage. DC would later extend their lead to 11-6 on a layup from Hathorne, but the Bears rallied with a 13-4 run to puall ahead 18-15.
A Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) trey tied the game at 18-18 with 2:38 left in the first half, however Bloomfield would close out the first half with three free throws for a slight 21-18 advantage.
The second half saw four tied scores and three lead changes with the last one coming with 5:22 left and the score tied at 44-all on a jump shot from Jacqueline Rywalt* (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.). DC continued on the run with the next seven points, concluded by back-to-back three point buckets from sophomore Shannon McGill (Staten Island, N.Y.) to give them an eight point lead (52-44) with 3:15 to go. The Bears would cut the lead to four points with just over a minute to play, but that would be as close as they would get as Rywalt closed out the game going 2-2 from the foul line to secure the 56-50 win.
McGill led all scorers with 15 points, shooting 50% (5-10) from the three point arc.
Gabbidon finished with her first and game's only double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and had three steals.
Hathorne finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Stefani Alston* (West Orange, N.J.) tied her season high with 10 points and added six rebounds. Rebecca Rabeiro (Midland Park, N.J.) came off the bench to have a team best three assists in the win.
Dominican travels to conference opponent, Philadelphia University, this coming Sunday. Game time is set for 1pm.
