GABBIDON BRINGS LADY CHARGERS TO VICTORY

(1/25/15) With 57 ticks left in regulation and trailing 65-62, junior Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) scored five unanswered points to bring the Dominican College women's basketball team to a 67-65 victory over host, Georgian Court University, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played today at the Wellness Center.

Two GCU free throws gave them the 65-62 advantage with just under a minute to play, but Gabbidon drove the lane and scored a layup to bring them within a point, 65-64 with 47 seconds left. A Lion turnover gave the Lady Chargers the ball and following a 30 second time out, Gabbidon struck again with a layup with only three seconds to go and was fouled on the play to send her to the line.
At the line, she completed the and-one play to give Dominican the 67-65 lead and eventual victory.
The Lady Chargers led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Lions were able to cut it to a four-point lead (26-22) at the intermission.
DC held a 62-56 lead after a trey from shooter Shannon McGill (Staten Island, N.Y.) with two and a half to play, but nine straight GCU points turned the tables and put them ahead, 65-62 with under a minute left.
Gabbidon led three Lady Chargers in double-digits as she came off the bench to score a career high 21 points and grab a team best nine rebounds in the win.
McGill finished with 16 points, while Lashonda Hathorne* (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
Guard Jacqueline Rywalt* (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) contributed a team leading four assists and eight rebounds to go along with six points.
With the victory, the Lady Chargers improve to 8-11 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Dominican is scheduled to travel to Post University this coming Wednesday.
