WOMEN'S LACROSSE LOSE TO PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
Philadelphia, Pa. (3/23/13) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game this afternoon after they fell to Philadelphia University, 16-8. Following the loss, the Lady Chargers are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Rams improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

(3/23/13) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game this afternoon after they fell to Philadelphia University, 16-8. Following the loss, the Lady Chargers are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while the Rams improve to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Rams struck first with a goal with 26:44 remaining in the first half, but the Lady Chargers charged back with two consecutive goals to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Gina Sparaco (Freeport, N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of the season on a free position shot and attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) followed with her fourth goal of the year off the assist from Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.), her seventh of the year.
The Rams closed out the remaining 20 minutes of the first half with a 6-0 run to take a 7-2 lead at the intermission.
DC got a goal back with 27:37 left in the game as junior attacker Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, N.J.) scored her third goal of the year off the pass from Smithwick to make the score 7-3. Philadelphia then went on to score five straight to make the score 12-3, but Brennan broke the run with an unassisted goal with 14:24 on the clock.
Philadelphia tallied another four goals to be ahead 16-4, but the Lady Chargers closed out the game with a 4-0 run for the final 16-8 score. Brennan netted her second game goal, followed by Traci-Joan Muniz* (Middlesex, N.J.). Smithwick went on to score a free position goal with 3:23 to play and Blank netted the game's final goal off the assist from Smithwick.
Smithwick led the Lady Chargers with two goals and two assists for four points.
Brennan finished with three points (two goals, one assist), while Blank had two points.
Goalie Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made five saves in the loss.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Georgian Court University.
