Middletown, Conn. (3/28/13) In their first ever meeting, the Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 13-4, this afternoon. With the loss Dominican falls to 1-5 on the season, while Wesleyan improves to 3-4 on the year.
Middletown, Conn. (3/28/13) In their first ever meeting, the Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Dominican College Lady Chargers, 13-4, this afternoon. With the loss Dominican falls to 1-5 on the season, while Wesleyan improves to 3-4 on the year.
WU did all of the scoring in the first half for a 6-0 lead at the break. The Lady Chargers got on the board to start the scoring in the second half as sophomore attacker Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) scored her 15th goal of the season on a free position shot.
After a Wesleyan goal, the Lady Chargers went on a 2-0 run as Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) and attacker Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, N.J.) to cut the lead to 7-3 with 16:17 left in regulation.
Wesleyan went on to outscore Dominican, 6-1 over the remaining 11:40 en route to the 13-4 win. Brennan recorded her second game goal on a free position shot with just under four minutes left.
Brennan finished with two goals.
Goalie Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss.
Dominican is back in action on April 3rd when they host Nyack College.
