RALLY FALLS SHORT AS SPARTANS DEFEAT WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Hillburn, N.Y. (3/2/16)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action to St. Thomas Aquinas College, 19-10, this afternoon in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.  With the loss, Dominican drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Spartans opened the first half with three straight goals before junior attacker Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) broke the run with a goal off the assist from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Christina Brennan* (Washington Township, N.J.), with 25:49 left in the first half.  STAC went on a 5-0 run to claim an 8-1 lead, but Gallahger once again broke the run on a free-position goal with a little over six minutes left in the half.

Dominican closed out the half on a 2-0 run as junior Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) and Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.) each scored unassisted goals to make the score 9-4 at the break.

STAC scored the first goal of the second half but attacker Katie Dascher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) got the goal back about 20 seconds later off the assist from Gallagher.  Trailing 11-5 with 23:44 remaining, Dominican scored three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 11-8.  Dascher got things going with her second goal off the pass from Brennan and Brennan followed with back-to-back scores off passes from Fitzgerald and Gallagher with 18:54 to play.

The Spartans used a 2-0 spurt to pull ahead 13-8, but Gallagher scored a free-position goal with 14:05 to go.  STAC netted five of the last six goals for the win.  Fitzgerald scored the final goal for the Lady Chargers on a free-position attempt.

Gallagher finished with three goals and two assists, while Brennan recorded two goals and two assists.

Fitzgerald had two goals and one assist with Dascher scoring two goals as well.

Goalie Brittany Kiernan* (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss.

DC returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Southern New Hampshire University.
